North Wind

North Wind comprise flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. We share a passion for music and performance and play a wide variety of music ranging from baroque through to contemporary.We have performed regularly together since 1999 in a variety of venues, primarily in the North of England.

As well as concerts, we have also played for weddings, memorial services, car launchings, art exhibitions and formal dinners. Our programmes are devised individually to provide a variety of musical styles for each occasion.

ArtWorks, Stepney Bank

Launch evening of an exhibition of paintings by the artist Andrea Marrion.
Entitled 'Girl with a Pink Headscarf' the paintings are her tribute to share how 'positive, confident and beautiful women can look after diagnosis and treatment' of breast cancer.
The exhibition runs from 5th to the 20th October at The Artworks Galleries, Stepney Bank, Newcastle.

The Abbot's House, Abbot's Langley


Our 3rd visit to Abbot's Langley - in which we promised to play the Ligeti Sechs Bagatellen. These opened the concert and were surprisingly well received.
The Taffanel Quintet was followed by an interval in the beautiful garden of our hosts Sue and Peter
In the second half we played the Danzi Quintet in Bb major and an arrangement of Bizet's Jeux d'Enfants. Elgar's Salut d'Amour was our encore which marked the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.

Profound and profane

The 18th century Grade 1 listed building - The Church of St Ann in Newcastle - was the venue for our concert with the Northern English Singers, conducted by Howard Layfield. The choir performed a varied programme including 16th century Weelkes and Lassus to Messiaen and Dove of the 20th century. Robin accompanied on the organ.
North Wind performed the Malcolm Arnold Three Shanties for Wind and the Dance Suite by Norman Hallam.
