North Wind

North Wind comprise flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. We share a passion for music and performance and play a wide variety of music ranging from baroque through to contemporary.We have performed regularly together since 1999 in a variety of venues, primarily in the North of England.

As well as concerts, we have also played for weddings, memorial services, car launchings, art exhibitions and formal dinners. Our programmes are devised individually to provide a variety of musical styles for each occasion.

The Abbot's House, Abbot's Langley


We enjoyed family hospitality at The Abbot's House. The early evening concert was in aid of Amnesty International.
The programme included Mozart's Magic Flute Overture, Hindemith Kleine Kammermusik, Farkas Hungarian Dances, Danzi Quintet in G minor and Hallum Dance Suite.
Hazel and Dave played the Quantz C minor Trio Sonata with continuo accompaniment from Jonathan on spinet and Harriet, bassoon. The first of Malcolm Arnold's Three Shanties was played as an encore.

St George's Jesmond


Our first concert with Ben - our new horn player.
The concert was organised by Carl Pearson and friends of St George's Parish Church who have been raising money for the past 6 years to support medical education at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College in Tanzania.
The programme included Mozart's Overture to the Magic Flute; Kleine Kammermusic, Hindemith; Ferenc, Early Hungarian Dances; Dance Suite by Norman Hallam.
Ben performed the Adagio and Allegro Opus 70 for Horn and Piano by Schumann, accompanied by Robin, who also played for Jonathan in Mozart's Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano.

The Abbot's House, Abbot's Langley


Our first concert venue south gave us a warm welcome.
The proceeds of this concert were in aid of the Medical Foundation for the Victims of Torture.
The programme included, Agay Five Easy Dances, Poulenc Novelette, Reicha Blaserquintet, Three British Folk Tunes, Arnold Three Shanties and the Trois Pieces Breve by Ibert. Harriet and Hazel (recorders) performed 2 movements from a Telemann Trio Sonate in F major, and Hazel and Dave played 2 movements from the A minor Trio Sonata by Telemann. Jonathan accompanied both on spinet.

Christ Church, North Shields

This concert was shared with Tynemouth Savoyards - a group of singers from Tynemouth Gilbert & Sullivan Society.
North Wind performed the slow movement of the Beethoven Quartet for wind and piano (+ Robin), Agay Five Easy Dances, Gershwin I Got Rhythm, Arnold Three Sea Shanties, Ist movement of the Trois Pieces Breve by Ibert,The Can Can and finally accompanied the Savoyards in the Cachucha, from The Gondoliers.
The proceeds from this concert were shared between Age Concern in North Tyneside and Amnesty International

Classics at Kirkleatham


We were the last of the groups to perform in this very popular classical concert season held in the chapel of the former William Turner's Hospital, now the almshouses.
The first half programme included Mozart's Magic Flute Overture, Agay Five Easy Dances and Trois Piece Breve by Ibert. In the second half we performed the Piano Quintet in E flat by Mozart, with Robin playing the Steinway piano, Telemann Trio Sonata (Harriet and Hazel playing recorders), Gershwin Promenade and Jamaican Rumba.

Morpeth

The programme for this concert included The Magic Flute Overture, Agay Five Easy Dances, Danzi Quintet in G major, Divertimento by Roussel and Trois Pieces Breve by Ibert.
The soprano Amanda Jones joined us and sang Schubert Le Parte Sur la Monagne with Jonathan on clarinet and Robin, piano. In the second half she performed Percy Grainger folk songs accompanied by Robin.

Classics at Kirkleatham

This was our first visit to the Almhouses and their classical concert season.
We performed Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite, Bonnie at Morn, Bobbie Shafto, and the Reicha wind quintet in E flat in the first half. The second half opened with Poulenc Novelette in C then Mozart's Quintet in C minor, Wedding Day in Troldhaughan by Grieg and ended the evening with Gershwin's I Got Rhythm.

We shared this concert with soprano Amanda Jones who sang a selection of Poulenc, Barber Schubert and Hely-Hutchinson songs.
We played the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Reicha Quintet for Wind , Three British Folk Tunes and the Theme from the Pink Panther.
