North Wind

North Wind comprise flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. We share a passion for music and performance and play a wide variety of music ranging from baroque through to contemporary.We have performed regularly together since 1999 in a variety of venues, primarily in the North of England.

As well as concerts, we have also played for weddings, memorial services, car launchings, art exhibitions and formal dinners. Our programmes are devised individually to provide a variety of musical styles for each occasion.

19th Century Art Song & Chamber Music was the title of a lunchtime concert at St James and St Basil in Fenham. Also performing in the concert were soprano Nicola Sugden with accompanist David Murray.

Critical Care Memorial Service

This our second year of playing at the annual memorial service, held at St George's Church, Jesmond, for the families of those who have passed away in Critical Care units at the Freeman and Royal Victoria hospitals. We played Skye Boat Song and Chrysanthemums (Puccini).

North Wind played the ever popular Mississippi Five by Jim Parker in the 1st half of the Bewick Orchestra concert held in St George's Church, Morpeth, raising money for the Henry Dancer charity.

'Wind Over the Water' at Cullercoats Lifeboat Station

The Cullercoats ladies lifeboat guild organised a very successful soiree held at the lifeboat station. Pre concert drinks and welcome was followed by an hour of music which included Gershwin's Promenade (Walking the dog), Derek Hobbs arrangement of Five Northumbrian Songs, Three Sea Shanties (Arnold) and finishing with Mississippi Five by Jim Parker. Canapes and drinks were served by the RNLI crew volunteers. £560 was raised for the Cullercoats RNLI.

Music for Candlemas

St James'Church, Morpeth, was the venue for a shared concert - 'Music for Candlemas', with the Colla Voce Chamber Choir. North Wind played Reicha's Wind Quintet in Eb, op. 88, no.2 and Ravel's Mother Goose Suite, combining with the choir for the traditional Corpus Christi Carol and 'Candlemas Eve' (Herrick).
Colla Voce sang a wide range of mostly unaccompanied motets and songs by Byrd, Howells, Berkeley starting, and finishing, with Hodi Beata Virgo Maria by Richard Shepherd.
A retiring collection was in aid of church funds and Medecins sans Frontiers.
